This year has started to become very busy already with only another four months until our major exhibition- ‘UneARThed’ on the June long weekend and there is still so much work to do. This exhibition continues to grow each year which greatly involves our members, local and regional students, artists from across NSW and interstate. It is with the kind and generous support of our local businesses, Mid-Western Regional Council, Gulgong Chamber of Commerce, Gulgong Men’s Shed and Red Hill Environmental Education Centre that this community event can continue to be successful. Invitations to enter UneARThed 2019 open on 1st February and close 29th May. We are changing the official opening and presentation of prizes valued at over $4,000 to Thursday evening 6th June, 6pm so our judges and valued business supporters are also available to attend. Speaking of judges…..Gulgong Arts Council have the privilege to announce Charles Gosford, a world renowned visual artist has accepted to our invitation to judge at UneARThed 2019……Charles Gosford, is a graduate of the Royal Academy School, London who now resides in Gosford NSW and we look forward to welcoming him into our community and also welcome with open arms, his expertise as a judge at our annual art show/exhibition.
There will be art of various mediums, sculpture, pottery, The Clyde Oakley Memorial Open Prize sponsored by Mrs. Helen Oakley. ‘The Henry’s sponsored by RHELC, the ‘Little Hero’s sponsored by Darren Gallagher of KIT Comics. The criteria for the Clyde Oakley Memorial Open prize has been changed this year to ‘Historic Gulgong NSW’ in any medium. McGregor Real Estate will also be offering a fabulous acquisitive prize of $500 criteria: a Midwestern Region landscape. You can find all the information needed at www.gulgongarts.com. Gulgong Arts Council will be also conducting the first GULGONG SCARECROW STROLL on the June long weekend during Henry Lawson Heritage festivities. This new event will be a separate competition to UneARThed Art Exhibition. This fun community competition will be open to families, schools, businesses and organisations. There will be three (3) categories – Recycled Scarecrow, Most Colourful and Best Local as well as a People’s Choice Award voted by the scarecrow viewers. You have plenty of time to come up with your prize-winning ideas. There are so many types of scarecrows! It could be funny, movie orientated, classic, animal, nursery rhyme character, sporty, farmer, mine worker, movie star, singer, pretty, local identity, ugly or a downright ridiculous scarecrow. The possibilities are endless, just use your imagination! Props could be used to enhance your scarecrow or just the standard broomsticks. Please refer to conditions of entry before constructing your scarecrow as the safety of our community and visitors is always a priority. Entry is preferred at www.gulgongarts.com where you will also find conditions of entry. Entry fee is $10 per entry with PayPal facilities available or direct deposit payment. All profits will be donated to Wenonah Lodge, a very worthy recipient!
